How do I use the Windows XP Photo Printing Wizard?
Requested and Answered by Gene Amtower [pcbgene] on 19-Apr-2009 15:56 (2612 reads)
To use the XP Printing Wizard, start from a Windows Explorer view, which is where you see two panes with the files shown in the right side pane (and either folders or folder-related options in the left pane). If you don't see the folders and need to navigate between folders before starting, there should be a "Folders" tool in the toolbar at the top to turn on or off the folder pane view.

Depending on what you're doing, you may already be browsing files in a Windows Explorer screen. An example would be when you insert a memory card and Windows asks if you want to view the files on the memory card. If you have this window, you can follow these steps from there. Otherwise, just open a Windows Explorer view using my favorite shortcut - hold down the "Window" key (usually between the Ctrl and Alt keys in the lower corner of the keybaord) and tap the "E" key to open Windows Explorer (E is for Explorer) in a new window.

Either way you get to this window, navigate to the folder containing the picture files that you want to print using the wizard. Once you have the proper folder of picture files displayed in Windows Explorer, follow the steps below to use the Printing Wizard...

Right-Click on any of the picture files in the folder to get the popup menu (make sure you actually right-click directly on a picture file to get the correct popup menu)
* In the popup menu, you should see an entry named "Preview" - click on it with the left mouse button
* A new window will open displaying the file you clicked on and a row of tool buttons along the bottom of the window
* In that row of tool buttons, near the right side, you'll see a printer icon - click on it with the left mouse button
* The Photo Printing Wizard will appear in a new dialog window
* Now click the Next button to start the wizard process
* On the next screen, check each picture from that folder that you want to print and click the Next button again
* Now select the printer and then click the "Printing Preferences" button to open a dialog for setting printer options, like paper and quality level
* Click "OK" to accept your Printing Preferences settings
* Back in the dialog, click on the "Next" button to proceed
* Now you are presented with the various layout options for how to size and arrange the pictures you selected before
* Here, you can also select how many times you want to print each picture, so you can do double-prints if needed
* Once you're done selecting layout and quantity, click on "Next" to immediately start the printing job

Have any photo paper already loaded before you start, as it will send the print job immediately after the last step above.
